To Paint or Not To Paint?

That is the question.

I scored this hall table and mirror combo at a church flea market last weekend for $10.

I originally gave it to my friend Stacy, but later had remorse and she kindly gave it back.  Don't hate me for being an Indian giver - we do this to each other all the time.

Anywhoodle, I just love the detail and the intricate carvings in the table.

I would love to use them as a set, but really don't think it's going to work anywhere in my home.

Boohoo!  Such a shame because that mirror is really pretty and matches the table perfectly.

I stuck it on this wall so I could take a picture, but that's way too narrow of a space and has heavy traffic flow.  I have a few places the table could go by itself, but it would mean painting it.  My first choice is painting it white and using it in my white coastal master bedroom.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on what to do with this beauty.

xoxo,
Kim

Actually, I don't think it looks so bad there, Kim. The only thing is it doesn't look like there's an outlet so a lamp wouldn't work on it. If you could use it there, I'd leave it, and then you could use the mirror over it. If you choose to move it, I think white with some glaze to bring out those details would look great.

I like it on that wall also...try to keep them together!! And as far as paint...Yep, this time, I would paint it!

I had the same dilemma with a little table I have, I went back and forth about painting it. I finally did paint it white and it looks so good sooooo, I would paint it.

I love your word "anywhoodle", I think I'm going to have to steal that one:)

Definitely give it up...TO ME!!! It's a beauty, that's for sure and I'm agreeing with the other comments to paint it.

I agree...paint it. I would then glaze the piece to pick up all the detail.

What a score for $10!!! Love them - definitely paint them white and rough them up a bit to reveal the wood tone underneath. Have you ever visited Life In The Fun Lane? lots of inspiration on painted furniture.
Thanks for your encouraging words over at my place! You're so sweet.

Gorgeous set, Kim! I think white with a glaze would really bring out all those fabulous details!

I could really hate you, you know that? You find such neat things...and for super cheap! But I don't!

I think I would paint the table for sure. And if you have room in your bedroom it would be very neat there!

You and your friend are TOO funny--I love having a friend like that! I vote for breaking the pair up--I think having them together is a little too matchy. And yes, paint! You got a wonderful deal!

Have a fun and safe weekend.

Kim, the two look good where you have them. Paint and glaze. You find the best bargains!

Kim-I would have been happy for either Crystal or Lee--but I was rooting for Lee. I LOVE that he was working in a paint store. He truly bloomed during the competition and gained so much confidence. It was a great show! I will miss Simon!

If you and Stacy can't figure out where to put these- you should just give them to me--problem solved!

I think it looks great the way it is, but if you do decide to paint it I think any light color with some technique glaze applied afterward would look super because the glaze would pick up all the intricacies really well.

I cannot believe you got that for $10...yesterday I was at our local consignment store, Stuff Etc., and you wouldn't believe how expensive their furniture was. And it wasn't even good stuff! I need to hit the garage sale/flea market circuit.

P.S. I love this mirror and table and it would take me awhile to decide whether to paint it or not.

OMG! $10.00 was a steal! I love this set, it's beautiful and would look great in MY foyer! LOL! Can't wait to see what you do with it, but I would try, try, try, to keep them together.

What an incredibly fabulous deal! 10 bucks...you SCORED! Hope you linked up to Thrifty Thursday, I havent gone through them all but this IS a thrifty find. Of the week for sure!
Ok, I want this, but since its in your home and I dont know where you live lets see....
I really love it natural. If you do paint it I would go with a white glaze so you can still see the wood grain. It really is gorgeous. I hope you can fingure a spot to keep it together. It really is a match made in Heaven.
Lucky you!!!!!

I love your new pieces! I think they look great where you have them...but I understand if they are in the way you need to move them.

I like them the way they are! I love painted furniture but I think it can be overdone...I like to mix wood and painted pieces. I guess it makes a difference where you use them.

Wow...I just re-read my comment and it is as clear as mud;)! I am definitely alot of help!

Enjoy!

Stopped by to say Congrats on your win at Always Nesting, and I'm glad I did.
That is a great piece. I know lots of people love to paint furniture, but personally I would leave it as it is. I love wood tones, and especially with that carving. If it doesn't work in your house I could make it work in mine. (;0)
Have a great weekend.

It does look great there, but I totally understand the traffic flow issue. i think it would be great white with a little glaze. That would totally bring out those beautiful details1 Good luck!

Yes, Kim, you are DEFINITELY a POUNCER!!! Congrats on this buy. I am in a phase where I like natural wood this color, but I can also see the look of a white wash. Whatever you decide, show us, please!!!

Oh Wow Kim..What a great find! You Indian Giver you! Ha! Ha! It has great detail on it! I know white comes to mind but you may also think of gold color with a tea stain or gold as the first coat, put vaseline on the areas where you want to distress then paint black over it and the gold will show through on the areas where you put the gold. You should always have a touch of black to pop in every room.{someone told me that} But it's a great table you can't go wrong! Thanks for the comment on Stanley! Congrats on your new pup!

I usually say no when someone wants to paint wooden furniture but this time I say YES! I think this will look great in white.
