Dresser Makeover

Mr. Bliss and I celebrated our 18th anniversary earlier this month.  For our wedding present, his parents got us a bedroom set.  It was one of those big bulky beds with the massive built-in bookcase and mirrored top.

I loved it at the time, but after 15 years is needed a make-over.  So we sold the bed on CL and Mr. Bliss made a new headboard, which you can read about here.

The dresser and nightstands I painted cottage white.

It was okay like that, but I always knew I would end up distressing it.  And after seeing Kim's furniture makeovers I decided to paint the drawer fronts too.

I used a mix of acrylic paints I had on hand to make a slate green shade.

The wall color is a sage green, which I now hate, so I will be changing that soon to a more neutral color, which I think will make this dresser stand out even more.

SOOOO not an acurate picture of the color here.  It looks kelly green in this pic, but it is actually more sage with some blue.  I just wanted to give you a close-up of the distressing.

After painting the drawer fronts and sanding, I added a clear glaze to the drawer fronts to tone down the color.  I was going to do a brown glaze to the rest, but decided against it, as there is so much white in this room.  So I ended up using the clear glaze on the entire piece.

Thanks for visiting.  Please be sure to enter my Cottage Charm Giveaway by clicking on the link in my sidebar.

Have a wonderful week!

xoxo,
Kim

Happy Anniversary, Kim! Wow, the dresser looked great in white, but it really went up a notch in the looks department with the additional color you added to the drawer fronts. I love it! Mr. Bliss did a great job on your headboard, too.

I think you did a terrific job, Kim! I love the color and the distressing!! My bedroom set is 25 year old cherry...it looks like the day we bought it so there is no chance I could lighten it up. Would love to though!
