Craig's List Series #11

This series of posts features Craig's List finds from my area of the country, South Jersey/Philadelphia.  Even if you don't live in this area, and most of you don't, I thought it would be fun to show you some interesting and unique pieces and what they are worth.  If you are in the market for rare antiques or just trying to gain a knowledge for what pieces are worth, I strongly suggest you visit Craig's List and scour the antique category.  

Most sellers will try to give as much information about a piece as possible.  So as a regular visitor to CL, I've gained a knowledge of terminology and time-period, as well as an understanding of which pieces are rare as opposed to those that are a dime a dozen.  For this series, I'm showing you the ones I think are either rare, very interesting, or an extremely good value.

Welcome back to one of my favorite series here at My Domestic Bliss.  Actually, it's the only series at MDB, but it's one that you all seem to like, so I'm gonna keep doing them!


There's been a lot of bad press about Craig's List lately, so I caution you to be careful when buying or selling.  It can be a great resource either way, you just need to use some common sense.


I have some great things to show you, so let's get started!


This antique vanity with tri-fold mirror was listed for only $50.  I can SO see this paired with a sweet little upholstered bench.

A gorgeous French-style chest for only $150.  Look at the condition of this thing!  Doesn't look like there's a scratch on it, and I love the grain of the wood.  The hardware is also stunning.  A steal if you ask me!

I see tons of secretaries listed on CL and they usually go for around $300.  This one was listed for $195.  Obviously not an antique, but I love the uniqueness of it nonetheless.  And if I were in the market for one, I would totally have snatched this up.

Also looks like it's in perfect condition.

A more traditional style secretary, this piece was listed for only $50.  It needs a little work, but could easily be fixed.  I love the serpentine drawers.  

Anyone in need of a sideboard would be crazy not to take advantage of this deal.  While the owner has disclosed that it has a few scratches and knicks as well as a sticky drawer, at $20 I think those could be overlooked!

Equally beautiful and cheap are these next two servers, listed for $30 and $40 respectively, the latter in need of a new handle.

Along the same lines is this beautiful China Cabinet listed for just $50.

As well as this one, also listed for $50.

People, you just can't get any cheaper than this!


And this china cabinet is ridiculously cheap at $100.  Look at the gorgeous color of the wood and the detail in the glass doors.  Also love the feet.

I know many of you are like me and can't resist an accent table.  They are just so easy to find a home for and at this price you can't go wrong.  An antique empire side table for $90.  Again, love the wood grain and the condition looks amazing.  

A sweet pink armoire, perfect for a nursery or little girl's room and listed for just $25.

I fell in love with this music stand, but didn't want to cough up the $100.  Still a good price and how cool is it?  So many different uses.

I was SOOO tempted on this next one.  I just fell in love with the traditional look of it and it would have gone perfect in just about any room of my home.  A gorgeous black hand-painted planter listed for just $50.  Kicking myself now...

This huge mirror was a steal for only $45.  

A bronze chandelier for only $50.

Love it!


A king size Pottery Barn quilt set, including shams and skirt for only $40.  A good deal even after you factor in the cost of dry cleaning.

I will finish up in typical fashion, saving the best/creepiest for last.


A pair of decorative casket handles - $35.

well, they are decorative....


And.....


wait for it.....


it's worth the wait.....


trust me......


A funeral body carrier!

I promise, I'm not making this stuff up!  Not sure why it's referred to that way - looks more like a casket to me.  


Unfortunately, there was no price attached to this one so it's anyone's guess what it went for.  Who am I kidding....

First let me thank all of your from the bottom of my grateful heart for all of your kind comments and well-wishes after my last post.  It means the world to me.  The baby and I are doing fine and I'm getting lots of rest as the rest of the family picks up the slack around here.


Also, for reasons I won't get into, I recently changed my settings to approve messages before I publish them and I'm still getting used to this.  I inadvertantly deleted a sweet comment from the dear Cass at Fairfield House, whose blog I adore!  I tried in vain to get it back to no avail.  So Cass, if you are reading this, please forgive me!  I have learned my lesson and will be more careful with my mouse in the future.  


Anywhoodle, back to the business at hand.  Staying home on bedrest has it's advantages I must admit.  I've been stalking Craig's List even more than usual and found some great things for this installment of my series.


I made one purchase of my own and am waiting impatiently on another.


My first purchase was this set of silver candleholders I found for $5.  I'm trying to add more silver to my otherwise brown/gold Living Room.  I used these pieces to switch out the display on my old secretary.

I just spotted this chandy on CL this morning and I'm waiting to hear back from the seller to see if it's still available.

IT IS ONLY LISTED FOR..............

FIFTY DOLLARS!!!!  Shazaaam!!!!!   Praying that the seller calls me back or I may cry.  I want this baby for my master bedroom.


As mentioned above, I did not purchase any of these next items.  
I found lots of China Cabinets at unbelievable prices, like this one with what looks to be leaded or stained glass doors for $75.

A vintage leather top octagonal occasional table on wheels for $35.

A sideways barrister bookcase.  JK - I tried to upright the picture but couldn't, so just turn your head.

Barrister bookcases are usually very pricey so this one listed for only $25 really caught my attention.


As long as your head is still tilted, here's another sideways picture.

Kay, turn your head back up again.

An antique yellow bamboo hutch for $35.  I was really tempted on this one.  Bamboo is hot right now and I love the shade of yellow.


Another great deal - this French Provincial dresser and mirror for $70.

A unique mahogany end table for $35.  

Someone remind me again why I didn't buy this??

I LURVE nesting tables of any kind.  This set of mahogany and leather nesting tables was listed for $40.  

This red painted hutch had me at hello.  If only I had a spot for it...
Only $50.....

This 1930's antique mahogany bedroom set is the bomb-diggity.  It looks to be in mint condition and for $500 you get the dresser, vanity & chair, nightstand, head & footboard (full) and 2 mirrors.  Not bad!

Another good deal was this sweet 7-piece girl's bedroom set for only $100.

Another china cabinet - I liked this one for the ornate detail on the glass doors and the price - $40.  It also appears to be in good shape and is on wheels.

This one was listed as an antique and asking only $35.

People, I'm not making this stuff up!  Like I said, I didn't buy any of it, so no reason for me to.  I just appreciate a good bargain like the rest of you and want to share what's out there in my neck of the woods.  


I'll keep you posted on that chandy.  Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me!

WOW! Where does the time go?  It's been a few months since I posted this series.  My apologies!  But no worries - it's back and this one is better than ever!  Let's get right to it.


First up is this French Provincial antique sideboard listed for $25.

A similar piece listed for $150.

A pair of antique marble top French Provincial style end tables for $40. 

An antique bedroom vanity for $50.

Antique croquet set - $160.  A little pricey, but super-cool!!

A stunning mahogany corner cupboard for $175.

Accent chair - $25.

This one is not an antique, but I can think of a few bloggers who would have arm-wrestled for it.
A rooster cabinet for $85.

A set of dressers with bookcase and small desk for $35.

Also not an antique, but a great price is this wood credenza for $35.

And a beautiful accent table for $60.
