Clover Market Oct. '12

In spite of all the craziness, we had our best show ever!  We have the greatest customers in the world.  Thanks again for all of your support and repeat business.  It's the best feeling ever.

This yellow piece sold within minutes of us setting up.

Also sold this gorgeous sideboard.  We were still setting up here, hence the shabby display.

So sad to see this gorgeous piece go.  But it went to a good home.

Now that the show is over, we are looking forward to expanding our booth at the Barn.  We have many big things in store for our booth - can't wait to get started!

ONE CRAZY DAY!!!

Welcome to Lemons Part 2!  Yesterday was our last show at Clover Market.  As you all know tons and tons of work goes into making a show a success.  We had so many amazing pieces of furniture this time and loads of junque!

We were surprisingly organized this time and had the rental truck all loaded up and ready to go by Saturday afternoon.  The next morning we were up at 0'dark thirty and on our way when.the.truck.broke.down...

A quick decision needed to be made - either bag the whole day or make the most of it and get what we could as quickly as we could into our own SUV/minivan/pick-up.  A quick transfer took place in the Wawa parking lot as the sun was starting to come up and we were all dying for coffee at this point.

We were 2 hours late setting up with only about two-thirds of our merchandise, but GOD IS GOOD!
I haven't felt so blessed in a long time.  I thanked God repeatedly for the beautiful day as I drove my MIL's minivan stuffed to capacity with totes.  I thanked Him for His mercy, for His grace, for His mighty presence in the midst of adversity.  I felt such a peace as I crossed the bridge into Philadelphia, knowing that we would be setting up late, in the middle of a crowd of shoppers.  All I could think about was how lucky I am to be doing something I love so much with people that I love.  It's the best feeling in the world.

We made the most of a difficult situation and through it all we had our best show yet.  There is still some issues to be worked out with the rental company and I won't mention who it was, but lets just say, it should be a wash when all is said and done.  I doubt we will be owing them any money for last month's incident.  They did not offer us a new truck, they didn't even offer us a ride home.  They did absolutely nothing to help us.

It's a bittersweet feeling today - knowing that we won't be doing any more shows is kinda sad, but we are so excited to be able to concentrate on our booth at the Barn.  I feel that a huge load has been lifted off of my shoulders and look forward to what God has in store for us next.

Clover Market Fall 2012

Thank you all for your very sweet and thoughtful comments from my last post.  Last week was tough and reading all of your comments made me feel so much better.  I'm nursing upper-respiratory and flu-like symptoms today, but mentally I'm feeling much better and ready to face whatever comes my way.

I mentioned in my last post that Clover Market was a huge success last weekend, with a record crowd, great weather and awesome food and entertainment.  On a personal level, sales for Larkspur Interiors were the best ever.

Here's a look at our space and what we had to offer.

We marketed this black dresser as a TV console and it sold quickly.  It was painted with chalk powder from one of my sponsors, Webster's Chalk Paint, and I just can't say enough about this product.  We just picked out the color we wanted in latex paint from the hardware store and then added the chalk powder per the instructions.  It was so easy to mix and dries/sands just like chalk paint.  The best part of course is not being limited to a choice of colors.  You can literally use any color you want and make it into chalk paint.  Love it!!  We finished it off with a coat of Fiddes & Sons wax in Rugger Brown.

About a million people looked at this potting bench, but it didn't sell.

These chalk boards were made from the doors of the china cabinet that I dismantled from my Dining Room and now use in the kitchen.  You can read about that here.  I just painted them in Miss Mustard Seed's new Milk Paint and then applied acrylic chalkboard paint to the raised parts.  Easy-peasy.  They sold as soon as the show started.

I had mixed feelings about selling this vintage patio set at the Fall show, as it is really more suitable for the Spring show, but it sold.

Clover Market Pix

It was another successful show for Larkspur Interiors yesterday at Clover Market in Ardmore, PA.  The weather was cooperative and the crowd was eager to buy.

I was quite happy with how our entry display was set up.

This Paris barrel sold before the show even started!  The two tins on top were perfectly stenciled and at the last minute I decided to Mod Podge them - disaster!  They weren't supposed to even be put out, but somehow they ended up on display - EEK!

This apothecary table is perhaps one of my favorite pieces ever.  It was very hard to part with, but the customers were literally fighting over it!

This is the second show that didn't sell one single demi-john and believe me, they were NOT expensive!  I've come to the conclusion that this is just not a demographic for those.  Must be a Southern Thang!

This is another favorite, an old china cabinet.  Sold.

It was a great day and we had a lot of fun.  But the best part is, we don't have another show until Sept. so we can finally relax and focus on our booth in the barn.

Clover Market

Larkspur Interiors had another banner day at Clover Market's first show of the season.  It was pouring rain when we woke up and while we were setting up our spaces, but by the time the customers started coming it was sunny and 70's.  We couldn't have asked for a better show.

I will post pics as soon as I can, but first I want to show you what I came home with, because you know it's impossible for me to have a show without doing a little shopping of my own!

As soon as I spotted these antlers I knew they were coming home with me.  The girls at this spot were the nicest, sweetest girls and their prices were unbelievably good.

They are hanging in the Living Room over a new print that hangs over my secretary.

This demijohn was a steal at $25, purchased from another vendor.  Denise and I were selling 3 of our own, but I liked the size of this one for my own purposes.

For now I have on the buffet in the Dining Room.

There's a huge warehouse-type building on the premises of Clover Market and the owner agreed to let us use his building to sell food.  In exchange he set up some things of his own to sell, but it was more of a garage sale.  I picked up three paintings from him, including this one in it's original antique frame.

I love all the bright colors, especially against my newly painted yellow walls. Color makes me happy.

All in all it was a great day.  Denise and I had a blast and got to meet some new vendors.  Our next show is on Sunday, May 6th so not much time to relax.

Auction House Love

I've been getting back into auctions lately after taking a long break, partly because yard sale season is off to an unusually slow start this year.

Last week I won this lovely hand-painted magazine stand.

For now it sits next to the fireplace.

And right now I have an absentee bid on this baby.

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed real hard.  It's gonna be a long day as I probably won't hear back until tomorrow.

I can just picture it over the fireplace against the newly painted pale yellow walls.  Oh please oh please oh please let me win!!!

On another note, tomorrow is the first show of the season at Clover Market and Denise and I are hoping for a big showing.  It's going to be sunny and 80's.  Perfect weather for shopping and hopefully buying!

Find Finds

Yardsale season is in full swing helped along by unseasonably warm weather.  We hit a few this morning and then stopped at the flea market on the way home where we scored big.

Most of our finds are going with us to Clover Market next month, like this pair of old wooden tool boxes.

In the fun and whimsical category are this antique leather and brass telescope.

An old pair of binoculars for just $5 and an old leather German hymnal for $1 sit on top of this awesome black lidded wooden basket.  Believe it or not, I got that basket at Marshalls.  It looks totally antique and I can't even believe that I got it for $12.  It's pure fabulosity.

This combo sits on top of my entertainment center in the family room.

I'm kinda liking how this vignette is coming together.  It has a very eclectic look to it, don'tya think??

Also at the flea market I scored this cute basket for two bucks.  Of course I see baskets all the time at yard sales, but I'm always looking for one that speaks to me.  This one said, "buy me, I look old, but I'm not telling you how old I am".

I also added another bamboo cane to my collection.

And this demijohn had me at hello.  Been looking for one like.for.ever but I'm not willing to pay the Pottery Barn-like prices.

Do you see the price?? SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!  Would you believe I had the peanuts to ask if he could do better?  He sold it to me for $15!  Woo to the Hoo!!

I will confess that I did splurge on a little something from PB this week.  I've had my eye on this salt cellar since I received my new Spring catalog, and the price wasn't too outrageous.

I love how it looks on the wall next to my hutch in the kitchen.

I found more goodies for the hutch at a mid-week church rummage sale, including a pair of ironstone candlesticks for $2.

And this S&P for $1.

As well as this sweet little silver bowl.

I love how my hutch looks now.

The white platters above I picked up on my trip to Marshall's as well as this fun glass jug.

Doesn't it look so Pottery Barn?  Guess what?  It was only $7!!!  I wasn't coming home without it.
It sits on top of my library table in the family room.

This room is coming along nicely.  But I'll wait to give you a tour until it's totally done.

It's a very different look than what I'm used to, but I absolutely love it.  Much more casual.

Just waiting for the windows to be done.  Mr. Wonderful is adding trim around them today, and I'm still waiting for the bamboo shades to be delivered.

All in all I found some great stuff at amazing prices this week.  SO glad it's yardsale season.  Let the fun begin!!!
