Master Bath Reveal

Of all the remodeling we've done in this house over the past 12 years, the Master Bathroom has perhaps been the most highly anticipated and long overdue in my opinion.  When we had this house built I was in my green phase.  Everything was green.  The kitchen countertops, the bathroom countertops, the shutters, the front door, the walls, even the kitchen floor (gasp!).  Looking back, what the heck was I thinkin??  Green is still my favorite color, it's just a lot less prevalent in my home these days.

For this remodel, I chose colors and materials that would compliment the master bedroom that I just posted about yesterday.  I'm a firm believer that a house should flow from room to room, especially in the master bedroom and bath.  Since my master has a coastal/cottage feel to it, I wanted the bathroom to reflect that as well.

Here is what it looked like during the remodel process.

Actually, in these photos, I had already switched out the light fixture.  The old one was one of those long pieces with the bulbs that look like they belong in a dressing room.

Also before, there was a huge sliding mirror that expanded the length of the vanity.  When we took it out there was a gaping hole in the wall exposing the studs and insulation.  We had that patched professionally and I got the new smaller medicine cabinet to the right put in that I got at a yardsale for $7.  Perfect!

You see how the builder just stuck two separate vanities and left a big open space?  Well, my initial choice was to get one long vanity, but because of the location of the sinks, this would entail moving the plumbing - way more money than we wanted to spend.  The only other option was to have a vanity custom made.

Soooo, my wheels started turning and the ideas started flowing - at about 3 a.m. - and I decided to paint the existing cabinets white and have Mr. Bliss add shelves in the middle, making it look like one long vanity.

He added beadboard to the sides and back and molding along the bottom to make it look built-in.

I ordered new doors from cabinetdoordepot.com in a paint-grade maple that were better quality than the original doors.

The countertops were ordered from Denise's husband who sells granite.  These aren't granite, but an engineered stone.  I absolutely love them!!!

I have these decorative boxes everywhere - I just love them.  And I added my growing perfume bottle collection too.

When we started the remodel, the first thing we did was paint the walls a fleshy color.  I lived with it for a while, but just couldn't stand it anymore, so last weekend I repainted the walls a pale blue that is so much better and compliments the room.

Just ignore the ugly window unit.  I'm almost 42 and I sweat.  A lot.  So the only way I can get ready without my makeup melting off is to have this air conditioner on high.  But it really is an eyesore.  Anyhowie, the color is Better Homes and Gardens in Spring Spritz.  Believe it or not, it covered better than any paint I've ever used and was probably one of the cleanest paint jobs I've ever done.  I'm usually covered in paint after doing a room.

The floors are 20x20 porcelain tile in a creamy beige.

We kept all of the original fixtures, including the spa bathtub and shower.  This was for all intents and purposes a cosmetic remodel.

Bamboo roman shades ordered from J.C. Penney.  I love the texture these add to the space.

I'm so happy with the results.  The only thing left is some artwork for the blank walls, but I'm waiting until I find exactly what I want.  I hope you enjoyed this before/after.

Have a Summerlicious week!
xoxo,
Kim

What a wonderful change. So bright and light. I just read your profile and am cracking up. You are me! At 41 I too found myself pregnant and had three older daughters. My littlest one is now 3 and my older ones are 20, 17 and 13. Crazy isn't it? How life surprises us.

I love what you have done with the vanity/cabinetry area. Love the bead board. We just put it in our kitchen for the back splash instead of tile. Love the bamboo shades too, we also are using them. Everything looks beautiful.

Wow, what a change from dreary to so light, airy and soothing. I love the beadboard and shelves you added in the center...that is amazing. It really does look like one large vanity. Really wonderful makeover!

Also, I just used some Better Homes & Gardens paint too...loved it. I was surprised honestly but I think it's definitely at the top of the list for me to.

Very nice!
I find it frustrating that the remodel we did is so out of date...but my husband will never agree to doing anything about it. {insert big sigh}
Thanks for sharing and letting me blow off steam!

That turned out so good, Kim! I have to say that I think your vanity and your customization of it is my favorite thing. I'm really liking that roman shade as a nice addition to the windows. I'm thinking of going with that type of shade when we downsize.

Wow, Kim it is gorgeous. I was in the green phase too when we built our house. My bedroom and master bath were covered in green carpet. There was green walls in the bedroom and green/black faux marble on the counter and bath surround. The counter has been replaced with granite, but we could not afford to change the tub surround so I just live with it. Love the colors you chose. Bright and airy.
