Getting It Right

Did you ever look at a room and think, something just isn't right?  And then spend the next few years trying to figure out what it is?

Ha!  Look who I'm talking to, right?  Of course you have!!  We are home decor bloggers and rearranging furniture is like a rite of passage for us.

My Family Room had me buggin.  So I scoured blogland for clues as to what I was doing wrong.  And something was wrong - terribly wrong I tell ya.  The room was not balanced (cue lightbulb moment).
That's it! (insert Angels singing).  It needed balance.  Sometimes it's the obvious simple things that throw us off.
So in the words of the great philosopher Peter Brady - when it's time for change you've got to rearrange (minus the squeaky voice).

Here is the old, unbalanced room:

Notice it leaning to one side (psst, the left).

No wonder my neck hurts all the time...

Getting it right feels sooooooooo goooooooood. Ya feel me?

The new arrangement, simple as it may seem, is more conducive to conversation.  It's warmer and cozier.

I started by moving the rug horizontally in the room rather than vertically in front of the sofa.  This immediately draws the whole room together.

And by placing the coffee table smack in the middle of the room, while unconventional, it gives the room a sense of balance.  In any other place, the whole room is thrown off of its axis, now it is centered.

Again before:

And after:

Other small changes:

Removed small table next to sofa.  With the lamp that wall was just too bulky.  Again - it needed balance.

Replaced it with a small stuffed ottoman in a whimsical fabric. (On clearance from Target).

I also straightened the love seat and sofa table to create a more intimate space.  Before it was on a diagonal.

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulicious weekend!

It's amazing the difference just a few changes make. (I have to admit that I kept looking back and forth until I spotted the change.) I like the table painted all one color. Great job!

Looks fantastic. Sometimes just the smallest changes make the most impact. The most dramatic thing to me was the rotation of the rug. Makes the room look entirely different!

Amazing! I would never think changing the rug would just "click". You've done an amazing job!

Hi Kim,
A simple revamping but it make so big difference.

I am in the same problem too but I still didn't get my butt to settle. I don't know what and how to re-arrange my sofa and all the simple blings.

You might give me a hint §;-)

Great job, young lady. Happy w/end.

Greetings from a very rainy Stockholm,
