I almost never change it for the seasons, except Christmas.
After Christmas we remodeled the family room and I was forced to make a change. The look in this room is a lot lighter with a softer color palette.
I've experimented with a few different looks. We removed the shadow box trim to allow for a larger piece of art. I also removed the stick-on decorative piece that used to be in the middle.
This round mirror was nice too. Notice the lighter color on the walls in this picture.
As the room evolved I began making small changes, like adding more color and painting some of my existing accessories.
This next one is a crappy picture - I was experimenting with the settings on my camera - but you can see how I was going for a lighter look. I added some silver rub n buff to the mirror too.
I really liked this look until I stumbled across this mirror at Marshall's for only $35.
The rectangular shape of this mirror really opens up the room.
I added the subway art sign I stole from Denise and I love how it looks now.
This is my favorite look.
I think it will stay like this for a while.

Beautiful mantel! My favorite look is the one with the mirror also:)
Oh I love all of the versions you tried out. They all looked wonderful. Your fireplace is gorgeous. I think I agree, this version is stunning, really fits the room. Thanks tons for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
Hi Kim,
I love all the changes you made. The new mirror and subway art are beautiful.

Love your mantels new look Kim and I love your white garden stool too!! I love the look of layers!
I usually leave my mantel alone, too, Kim, until Fall then I change it up for Halloween, basic Fall and then Christmas. Otherwise it stays the same throughout the year. Once I like it, I leave it alone! Love the mirror you found at Marshalls and the subway art looks great propped up against it.
I love looking at mantles I think because I can never get mine right. I love yours. It's very comforting. Thanks for sharing.
The changes you have made look wonderful! I wish I had so many ideas for rearranging my mantel. Holidays are easy, but summer...grrrr! Love the rectangular mirror and the subway sign! It's all very inspiring!
XO,
Jane
funny I am getting ready to redo my mantle. You gave me some good ideas.
Hi Kim, I don't change my mantle often either...exept for recently, and it's still not that different! I have had the same oil painting up there since we moved in this house. I really like how you have your mantle now...it looks great! The mirror does open up the room.
Your newly dressed mantel looks terrifc, Kim! I love how you removed the shadow box, allowing you to place larger items up there. The mirror is perfect, as are your accessories ... love the subway art!
Looks quite summery.

Kim, that looks amazing! It is incredible how different that large mirror makes the room look. You are right on when you said it really opened the room it! It looks great!
First I have to say....I AM IN LOVE with subway art!
I personally look forward to changing up the mantle. It's really the thing you see when you enter my house. Well...if you are looking straight ahead and didn't stop to look at my pictures along the way {haha}. Or maybe my doggie was scaring your little boy, or something.
Ok getting off track here.
What I am trying to say is....I have always used the mantle as that one place that changes for the seasons and/or holidays.
Love your mantle! Maybe a family pictures on there would be nice. hint hint.
What a great summer look! I love the way the mirror opens everything up and the subway art is perfect.
