Bedroom Bliss

The master bedroom is finally done and I must say, it is truly a blissful retreat.  I look forward to winding down the day by getting in bed and reading my new issue of Better Homes and Gardens.  It's so much more calming with the new color on the walls and I've done a bit of rearranging of furniture as well.

Here is the bedroom before with the green walls and old dresser.  You can read about it's past transformations here.

In this photo you can almost tell that I actually painted the headboard yellow.  I've since repainted it white.

And here it is now.

The new paint color is Baer paint in eggshell.  The color is Sandstone Cove.

In addition to painting the walls, I brought in a Craig's List dresser that I painted in A.S.C.P. Chateau Gray with a dark wax.

The mirror is the same, but I added new accessories from Marshalls.

The mercury glass candleholders add a little bit of sparkle to the room.

I added some florals to this sweet container.

These Better Homes and Gardens plates are from Walmart.  They used to hang in the sitting room, but I like them here better.   I've been scouring Ebay for one more to complete the wallscape.

I know they don't pop out, but I like the subtlety of them.

I also brought in my favorite antique cabinet that used to be in the sitting room.  This piece has also been through many transformations, which you can read about here.  This is one of the befores as it looked in the Sitting Room.

And now as it looks in the master.

I love the new look with chateau gray and dark wax.  It holds some of my special sentimental treasures.

Since the Pottery Barn curtains didn't work in here (story here) I decided to rehang the white panels that have been here for a couple of years and I really like how they look with the walls.  It's a very soft look.

These walls are just screaming for some artwork, aren't they?  I'm not going to put anything on my newly painted walls until I'm sure I'll like it.

For my bed I bought new sheets in a dark teal color and purchased a new white matelasse quilt from Ebay.  The bedskirt, shams and comforter were a Pottery Barn splurge last year.

The new lamps are one of my favorite additions to this room and an unexpected find.  I wanted teal blue ceramic lamps for my side tables and wasn't going to budge.  I was shocked to find these at Walmart of all places for only $15!  They are the perfect size and you'd never know by looking at them that they are actually resin!  The lampshades were also a Walmart purchase last year.  They have the look of burlap, but without the PB price tag.

I just read in my new issue of Southern Living that your bedside tables should be "cousins", not "twins".   They should be of the same height (give or take a couple inches) and the same color, but different styles. I was happy to hear that because that's exactly what I chose to do in my master.

Both of these tables were $4 at a church flea market a couple of years ago.

They are very vintage.

I still need to add some artwork to the large wall surrounding the cabinet, but not sure what to put there yet.  I'm open to suggestions.  I'm leaning towards black and white photos in white frames with white matting.

Poor thing looks so lonely on that big bare wall.

I'm also still working on tweaking the adjoining sitting room.  We are looking for a sofa to go on the big wall.  It's kind of Mr. Bliss' man space, so I'm trying to de-feminize it for him.

I hope you like the new look!  Sorry for the ridiculousness of the grainy photos.  After two years of having a good camera you'd think I'd be past this.  Any suggestions?  It's a Nikon Coolpix L100.

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulicious week!
xoxo,
Kim

Kim...it looks beautiful! The paint color is perfect, very relaxing. I have light green walls in my living room and I want to paint them a soft gray this spring. I'll have to write down the color you used. I love it.

I also love your new bedding, very cozy for the winter. And the curtains look great, too. I like your advice on the nightstands...hubby's and mine do look identical and I need to change that up a bit.

You did a great job. Looking forward to how you decorate the walls. I like the idea of the B & W pictures!

Jane

Great job! I love the new dresser and the new lamps! Actually, I really like all of the changes you made. I would love to find some cousins for nightstands as well but will be keeping the twins for a while longer. haha! Your room is sure looking beautiful! My only suggestion for artwork on the walls would be to see if you can find something with some teal like in your lamps to bring some of that color over to that side of the room too! Beautiful job!

It looks great, Kim! I love the chateau grey on your dresser! I am trying to decide on a color for one of a similar style that I got off Craig's List a couple of months ago. Great side tables ~ what a deal, too! Love your bedding. I love bed skirts like that. I got a linen look one from Target a couple of years ago and its natural color and ruffle work well for me. I like yours because it's a bit longer than the one I got. Sweet Dreams! : )

Ahhhhh, what a beautiful retreat, Kim !! You've done such a fabulous job of mixing colors and textures! The new wall color is perfect, and you KNOW I love the chateaux grey dresser. I'd want to unwind here reading my fave magazines at the end of the day, too!

Beautiful bedroom/retreat. I can't believe those lamps are resin, they look like ceramic.
I know what you mean about grainy pictures...I have a Nikon Coolpix L110 and a new Canon SD3500IS and both take grainy pictures. I keep going back to my 5 year old little Canon PowerShot A530, because it takes such sharp pictures compared to the other 2 cameras.

Hi Kim,

I love the new wall color. Your bedding is so beautiful! Great looking dresser and accessories.

How about added a chair or two next to your pretty cabinet. Then stack pictures above the chairs.

Kim, you did a beautiful job on the bedroom and the pieces with the chalk paint. I gotta learn how to do that. Love your colors and the PB bed linens.
The colors and fabrics make the room seem so soothing and restful.

Hi Kim! You're bedroom looks great! But I'm drooling over one particular thing...your bedskirt. Where did you get it and what kind of fabric is it???????? It would be perfect for the look I want in our bedroom!

I thought I commented before but I dont see it.. so - sorry if this is a repeat.

Your bedroom looks beautiful..

as for pics-- and I know this isnt always easy- but- turn off your flash AND sit a lamp right behind where you stand to take your photo- with at least a 150 watt bulb in it.
It functions a lot like pro lighting- cause its lighting from behind.. of course it means you have to move the lamp and whatever you're sitting it on- which is a pain lol BUT you'll see an amazing difference in your photos. I hope this helps and if you have any questions just email me..
