I Clocked In At Home Goods!

I love pay day.  Aside from the obvious reasons, every other Friday my husband's wonderful parents come over and watch Cole so I can have some time to myself.  I usually go food shopping, but this past Friday I got to spend time with my sweet sister, Darcy, who treated me to lunch after a power shop at Home Goods.

I feel terribly sorry for anyone who doesn't live within a reasonable driving distance of this magical place.  With so much decorating goodness to behold, it can almost be overwhelming.  I admit, there's been more than one occasion when I've left HG and needed a good nap, a pair of Advil, or a stiff cocktail (depending on the time of day) to decompress.  Because from the moment I walk through the door, I'm like a kid in an eye-candy store.  I.just.can't.get.enough.

Having said that, there is one small problem with Home Goods.  One has a tendency to pick up things one does not necessarily have a logical use for.

Here's an example.

I'm a sucker for anything Laura Ashley, but stamping her name on a broom and dustpan is just plain silly.  Clearly, it is just an excuse to jack up the price - a gimmick to lure some poor sucker me into buying something I do not need.

On the other hand, just picture how cute I look dusting the floor with this set.

One might even say I look Domestically Blissful.

My next purchase is even more perplexing.  At first glance it looks like a ruler.  And kind of it is.  So why was it in the kitchen gadget section of HG?

Wait for it.....

I'm begging you to ignore how dirty my oven is...

Folks with this revolutionary un-ruler I no longer live in constant fear of losing the use of my limbs by grabbing a burning hot oven rack with my bare hands.  WHY has nobody invented this before???

Finally and most rationally, I was in the market for an alarm clock for my new/old nightstand.  This clock had me at hello.

It may not have an alarm, but at 29" in diameter, I will no longer have to throw myself over Big Daddy in the middle of the night to see the time.

Just look at the size of her!!!  AND I had reverse sticker shock when I saw the price - $25!!
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!!  I've seen smaller versions on CSN and World Market for 5 times that price.  I thought for sure it would tick but not tock, but I hardly cared.  It was comin' home with me regardless.

Surprise!  It tells the correct time and fills up a bare wall, killing two birds with one purchase.

Bought anything lately that you don't need?  Don't beat yourself up - it just may become your new favorite thing!

I love the broom and dustpan, tres chic. My stove looks worse. The clock makes a nice statement. As far as buying things I don't need. Garage and city-wide sales have opened up in my area. What do you think?

The very reason, I have been trying to stay out of stores these days. :D Still trying to get rid of some of my "over abundance" now. I have seen the rack hooks before but not like that. Your oven looks like that because you actually use it. :D
Enjoy your evening.

I can truly picture you looking ever so cute and blissfully domestic using that broom & dustpan. I've seen those push/pull things, but never with the ruler markings. I like that. That clock, just let me say WOW, really cool! And, alas, I am one of those rare people who does not have one of these great stores close by, but that will all change here soon, when we make our big move. I've already Googled to find where all my favs are located. Yay, the land of plenty!

I live within driving distance, but forbid myself from going there.

I was actually on my way to buy a gift for a friend one time and got a flat tire...I think that was my bank account trying to tell me something!

I'm one of the poor souls that doesn't live near a Home Goods. I'd never even heard of it until I started reading blogs. Of course based on everyone's love for it, maybe it's a good thing I'm not close to one. I'd be broke!
