Candlelight In The Kitchen

I love me some moodlighting.  And nothing says moodlighting like the glimmer of candles on a dark and gloomy morning.  It's dreary and rainy here on this Tuesday morning.  And since I'm going to be home all day with the baby, I took the opportunity to light some candles in my kitchen to brighten my mood.

Over the weekend I stopped at Michaels to purchase some filler for the candlescape I created in my favorite tray that sits on top of my island.

I've been trying to incorporate more lime green and brown into my kitchen.  It's becoming my favorite color scheme these days.

This filler was perfect as it had just enough color to brighten up my tray and contrast with the dark brown candles.

Don't know what those things are, but I love them.

I love how it looks now.

And speaking of islands.  No I'm not taking a vacation - at least not any time soon.  I'm joining Shelia's Heart of the Home Favorite Cupboard party and my kitchen island is just that - my favorite cupboard!

In my last home I did not have an island and it was high on my wish list for this home.  And it also happens to be a necessity as I have a very small kitchen with not a lot of counter space.

I love my island because it's nice and big and I can see into the family room as I prepare meals.

And since we're looking into the family room, I'll share my latest changes in there too.

Last week I shared the changes I had to make after Mr. Bliss decided to move the new receiver on top of my entertainment center.

Well, I changed it up again.  Here is what it looked like last week:

And here it is now:

Like I said, I'm into the green/brown thing now and this works better for me.  I took out the red.

I added some greenery into a small trunk I got at Michaels.

I also switched out the little display on the top shelf.  I shopped the house and found this basket that fits perfectly into this small space.  Then I added the orbs I got at Walmart last year.

I like this much better.  Of course now you can see that stupid hole in the back.

I'm linking up to Marty's Tabletop Tuesday party today too.  Be sure to visit both blogs for more cupboard and tabletop fun!

xoxo,
Kim

I love the candle decor on your island. Your entertainment center is very similar to mine. I'm still trying to tweak it a bit to make it look perfect. I love how you have the baskets in the glass doors, I will have to try that. Right now I have a ton of photo albums that need to be organized.
BTW I love your blog =)

Ha, ha! You can't have it both ways, Kim - the receiver or the hole! : ) Toss another decorative ball over it and make it look like it just happened to fall out of the bowl for that "I don't care" look. I have a similar wall color in my little den and I've brought in other shades of brown. It's so nice and cozy in there. I have a coupon for Michael's for candles and they are on my list to get when I go.

You definately have everything looking beautiful. I think you may be having the weather that we had yesterday. As far as the mood lighting, I have lamps everywhere and love to use them, I have been known to leave candles burning for days, so I stopped using them for fear of more forgetfulness.

I know it sounds silly but you could always put a brown piece of poster board or pain chip behind the hole with double stick paint and the white wouldn't show. We tend to take shortcuts here...lol....You have a lovely home.

Everything looks so beautiful Kim! I always light a candle on my kitchen island at night but I've started doing that more during the day too (you think you have dreary days, try living in the NW!) and it feels so indulgent somehow, you know. I like it! :-)

Wow, you are so creative... those items on the tray with the candles look great. I NEVER would have thought of doing something like that! I have a tray like that and I just saw one-dollar black ceramic balls in one of the stores and I would love to do something like this! I just lit my Yankee jar candle that my son gave me, Fresh Cut Blossoms, and it is a pretty scent -- you have inspired me tonight! I will be thinking of you. Hope you had a great day with Baby Bliss! :)
Best,
Gloria

Really like your candle vignette on your counter top. I nearly always have a candle burning on my kitchen counter in the evening.
I looked at your entertainment center, then looked at my setup - Wow! I need some help.

Hi Kim, Your kitchen island is so nice and big! Mine is pretty small...I'm going to look for a tray and do a little something different on mine for spring like you did. Mr. Roo is going somewhere else for a while! Your entertainment center looks really good too!

The animal decor party is a great idea! I am going to give that some thought! Have a great day, Kristen

I really like how your entertainment center looks. I'm so into shades of green (and have been for awhile), & try to put some shade of it in every room. That hole behind your orb display would drive me crazy. Could you add a couple more orbs on either side of your basket that would hide it or may be even a piece of wide decorative molding (stained to match) just placed across the back (wouldn't have to be attached in case you need to access that hole in the future)? The candle display is very pretty. There is something just so special about candles even in the middle of the day.
