Thriftin' Away!!!

Hubby was on vacation from work this week, so we decided to spend some quality time together while the kiddies were in school. We opted to do something very romantic.......we went thrift shopping! Actually, we used to do this alot when we were dating and going through our vintage clothing phase. I'm lucky that my man likes to shop! He'd probably be embarrassed if he knew I mentioned that about him in my blog, because he is a big, burly, husky outdoorsy type who likes to fish and hunt. So let's keep that our little secret;)
Anywho, after spending all of his money (and then some) I was going to take a break for a day when I got an email from my dear friend Stacy asking, okay pleading with me to go out thrifting with her. She took me to some places I hadn't been to before including a Goodwill where I found the "Piece de Resistance" - more to come on that later.

Stacy is an extremely talented artist who actuallly gives art lessons to lots of children, including my 9 year-old Amy. She used to have her own business restoring anything from furniture to glass and clothes, upholstering chairs - basically anything you can think of she did. In fact, she really could be the next Design Star!

With hubby I picked up lots of old, musty books that needed some dusting. I love to decorate with books. I put them under plants, in vignettes with candles and of course in my bookcase. I love how they have that old smell to them. Besides that I snatched up this picture for $3 that I just fell in love with.

Stacy found quite a few goodies and was nice enough to let me have them.......okay, I begged! This mirror is going to end up in a wallscape that I'm working on with the above picture. It's small and it was only $2!

This large, heavy, wooden plate features a stamp decoupage. It was also $2 and I'll probably stick it on top of my bookcase. Wouldn't it look great with some ivy behind it???

This angel will find a place in my wallscape too, probably over a picture.

Okay, now for that piece I was telling you about. I could barely speak when I saw it, and then when I saw the price I thought they were going to have to rescusitate me (did I spell that right??) I don't have a picture of it yet, and hubby is going with a friend tonite to pick it up. I will post it tomorrow. I can't wait!!!!

This is my 3rd try at attempting to leave a comment. Keep getting an error for some reason. Love the frame around the floral! Love the cherub. Found a similar one for $5 on my trip to the mill (in this week's post), but I'm betting you got a better deal! :O) Like the decoupaged tray. Would be cool to do that on an old suitcase!

You did very well. That wooden plate is great with all the stamps. I was out making the thrift store rounds myself today, but I didn't do as well as you.
