New/Old Hall Table

Some of you may remember this table I bought at a church flea market last year.

It actually came as a set with the mirror for only $10!

I ended up selling the mirror on Craig's List and put the table in my foyer.

I love this table, but always knew I would eventually paint it.  I just didn't know what color.
I chose chalk paint in Old White and then heavily distressed it.

I then went over it with my minwax stain in Dark Walnut and wiped it off to show more of the detail, then waxed and buffed for a finished look.

I decided not to paint the top, and instead sanded it down and covered it in the Dark Walnut followed by two coats of poly.

I love how it looks now.

I purchased the key at the Clover Market this past weekend.  Everything else I already had.

Since I was in the process of painting this piece, I decided to paint a table for Denise with the same technique.

Denise got this table at the local flea for $10.

It's from Bombay Co., but I think the previous owner sanded and stained, but did a shabby job.

They also added some extra embellishments to the sides, which showed up much better when it was painted and distressed.

Here it is all finished.

Much better, don't you think?

I love how the wax gives it a nice shine and sheen.  I highly recommend this as a final step for anyone painting furniture.  It's worth the extra time and effort.

Thanks for visiting.  Have a Blissfulicious day!

xoxo,
Kim

Both tables look gorgeous, Kim! I really like the Dark Walnut you did on top of yours. I think I am going to have to pick some of that up. Do you find there is a longer drying time when you use stain over the painted portion? I think this would be a good look for a mirrored hall tree I have that is currently oak or pine {either way it's got that orange tinge to it}. The little half round table top is a cream and brown marble, but I bet I could get my hubby to cut a piece of wood in its place and I could stain that Dark Walnut.

My clear wax came yesterday so I am hoping to get started on either my dresser or headboard shortly. I am doing the Old White, too.

I love both tables - a definite improvement!! And I LOVED seeing the photos of Cole...he is so precious. Is he having fun thrifting and shopping with his mom? :) Claire is just now getting old enough where she is tolerating her car seat and driving in the car a lot better so we are venturing out more. I took her to a garage sale last week but it was a total bust. She was good, though! Have a great week!

Kim, they both turned out so great!! I won some of that chalkpaint and I picked the old white I plan on painting cabinets in my laundry room with it. So nice to see different photos of what it looks like. :)
