Weekend Get-Away!!!

This past weekend our family had the pleasure of taking a mini-vacation to Gettysburg with all of my husband's wonderful family. We even brought the dog! I majored in History at Rutgers University and have always been fascinated with the Civil War. I even did my senior thesis on the 54th Regiment of Union Soldiers from which one of my favorite movies - Glory - was based upon. So when my Sister-In-Law Susan suggested we all take a trip together to this amazing place - I was ecstatic! I've been there before, but it was several years ago and they recently built a new Visitor's Center that was incredible. Just being on such hallowed ground gave me goosebumps at every turn. The only souvineer I brought home was a bullet from the battlefield. I learned so much that I never knew before and I will always remember this trip. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

This is Mallory in front of the Jennie Wade house. Jennie was the only civilian killed during this horrendous battle.

Amy and Mallory in front of the door to Jennie's house. You can still see the bullet holes. Our tour guide showed us the hole from the bullet that actually killed poor Jennie.

My silly husband trying to get a bite of Jennie's bread. She was baking bread for the Union soldiers when she was shot.

Some gorgeous pictures of the battlefield that I can't wait to print out in black and white. It was raining on and off all weekend and a bit chilly, so there was a mist over the fields that just added to the solemn atmosphere.

Little Round Top - the most fierce of the battling took place here.

Thanks for sharing our vacation with us! Have a great weekend. I'll be back next week with pix of treasures from a weekend of thrifting and yard sale-ing!!!

I don't live that far from Gettysburg, however, I have only been there twice. We are taking my inlaws from upstate NY to Gettysburg later this month. I hope they have a good time like you and your family.

Beautiful pictures. That mist really gave your pictures the look of history! It's been a long time since I've been, but I do remember that it gave me chills to think about the amazing events that had taken place there. laurie

It looks like you had a great trip to Gettysburg. My husband is really interested in the Civil War and we (mostly he) enjoy visiting battlefields. He keeps talking about going to Gettysburg again and after seeing your pictures I want to! My favorite picture that you posted is the barn one.

So glad you stopped by my blog.
Don't forget to stop by again. I am going to have a "card box" giveaway every month. This drawing will be the last day of April.
Every comment you leave throughout the month will enter your name in the drawing, so if you visit several times and leave several comments, you will have a better chance to win. This NEW blogger was so touched by all the comments I got on the Blog Party, that I decided to make this a monthly GIFT...
Also, if you link to my blog telling about the monthly giveaway, you will have your name entered 10 extra times...How is that for an incentive?
I was so blown away by all the responses that I wanted to email each person personally, but TIME...has not permitted..but I did love reading all of them..I am continuing to introduce my family members and then there will be some fun blogs coming up from Disney World in May. I am so thankful for all my new friends.

Hi Kim...just dropping by to thank you for your always nice comments on my blog...you asked where I got the dangly thing cloche...
well, actually it is a mirrored little pedestal thingy I got in a garage sale for a dollar & I bought a cloche dome to add to it..
I LOVE garage sales, thrift stores & estate sales so much it is hard for me to pay retail anymore unless it's a place like Ross or etc.
Wishing you & your beautiful family a blessed Easter... ;-) Bo

p.s. Coral is not bad for the environment....taking the coral from the reefs and distroying the natural fish habitat is bad for the environment...so they don't allow people to take coral now.
