Accessory of the Month!

Gosh, where has the time gone??? I've been so busy reading all of your wonderful blogs, oohing and ahhhing at your lovely tablescapes, gawking at your incredible metamorphoses, and envying your thrify finds that I've gone and neglected my own poor blog. The poor thing has been so lonely just sitting here waiting patiently for a post........oh great, now I have guilt!

Okay, I'm over it. The truth is, I've had nothing to post. No dishes worthy of a tablescape. My metamorphosis is still metamorphosizing. And thrift store finds have been few and far between. So what is a poor blog to do? Get creative of course! I took a stroll around my home and in no time at all I came up with an idea for a post.........background music is "At Last"....but you can't hear it.

My new blog friend Lisa at Fern Creek Cottage (wonderful blog - totally worth visiting!) had a post today about decorating with her new favorite accessory - apothecary jars. So I thought to myself, what is MY new favorite decorating accessory??? After thorough review of my decor, I noticed a recurring theme.......books. Lots and lots and lots of books. One might even get the impression after browsing my home that I like to read. Sillies - who has time to read?? I'm far too busy accessorizing with books!

It starts the moment you open the front door. Inside the foyay (sounds so much better than FOYER doesn't it??)

Then saunter into the Family Room (aka wreck room, er, rec room).....

Some vintage books on my old desk

On the bookcase....crazy place for them, I know.......

A sweet little vignette in the master suite..

And in the upstairs hallway. You may remember that console table from Caesar's Palace that I recently purchased for a steal at a local liquidation warehouse and was looking for suggestions on how to accessorize. Well, I came up with a great idea! Yup, books. And............

I know what you're all thinking, "An empty jar, why didn't I think of that???" Yes, it is empty. But only temporarily. I need hubby to go to Home Depot to get me some sand. He's always looking for an excuse to go there anyway, and the sand they sell at Michaels wouldn't be enough to fill this big ol' thing. I will fill it about 3/4 with glistening white sand, and then add some assorted shells, maybe a starfish or two, and for the finishing touch I will lay some larger shells beside the books. Trust me it looks great in my head.

Not even my kitchen is safe from my new passion. And as an added bonus, now I can appear to actually kinda sorta maybe like to cook. It's a win-win!!

So there you have it! My new decorating accessory. So now of course I would love to hear from all of you on what your fave accessory of the moment is?????? Don't have one?? That's okay, just tell me any old thing that you like to decorate with, I just like hearing from you all! Have a very blessed Easter to all of my awesome blog friends!!!!

I have a thing for books too! I can hardly sit something down without putting a book under or beside it. It just doesn't look complete without them!!

Oh, I was laughing about your excuse about not posting! Too cute! I use books a lot in my decor too. You have done a lovely job of decorating with books, and what a great idea to put them in a bookshelf!! I look forward to a future post showing your "not empty" jar! laurie

Hey Kim- I signed off for the weekend and haven't done any visiting lately. Seriously need to catch up! I love your books, the PB book on my blog today is really big and oh so pretty! It would fit right in. I love all of your accessories, but my "thing" is urns. I have urns in everyroom, well not upstairs...that's boy territory, and we know what damage a good urn could do! I have floral arrangements in them, moss, funky orbs, weird balls of greenery, weird balls of brown twine...my list goes on and on. Of course, I don't have the big urns out front like I really want!

Really like your framed "M". I recently did a framed letter for my dining wall. Right now my books are for decoration only, as I have not been reading a lot - makes me sleepy. :) I will be back to check out more of your posts when I have more time.
