Where I Stand...

My oldest is working on a project for school pertaining to current events.  She asked me what would be a good topic, and I couldn't think of a better issue than gun control, given everything that has happened in our country recently.  That was on Tuesday.  Yesterday, there was a shooting at the Barn. Someone shot at the owner of the antique store where Denise and I have our booth.  She was not hurt, praise God, but as of this moment, the shooter has still not been apprehended.

A full day after the drama, I'm still in shock and trying to process how someone would try to kill somebody over $35.  Yes, she was angry over a purchase put on layaway over a year ago.  I'm also trying to process that I was standing in the exact spot where shots were fired exactly 24 hours prior.  I got the call about the shooting about 15 minutes after Denise left my home to bring some things to our booth.  I was scared stiff until I heard her voice. She got there right after it happened, but it was too close for comfort.

We are like a family at the Barn.  A very close-knit group of vendors whose only worry is if we are going to make rent this month.  I call it my home away from home because I can't wait to get there and love every minute that I'm there.  That will not change because of some random act of violence, but I'm not sure if things will ever be the same.

No matter where you stand on the issue of gun control, and I'm still trying to figure out where I stand, I think we can all agree that something needs to be done.  Please continue to pray for our leaders as they try to figure out a solution.

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy and safe weekend.
xoxo,
Kim

OMG! My prayers are with you and your friend as you try to deal with this. PLEASE do not let it scare you and take control. Thats what these people do when something like this happens. Its sad that the world has come to a point where we are shooting each other at grade shools and craft stores of all places! My heart goes out to you guys...the customers, children, and the entire community are affected by these stupid acts of violence!

I am so sorry for your friend/co-worker. My daughter was held at gunpoint a few years ago...she works in retail. It is scarey...

That is crazy, Kim! Glad no one was hurt and it sounds like they know who did it, so I'm sure they will arrest her shortly. Wacky people out there!

Oh my gosh, how terrifying! I totally agree with you, something needs to be done! We recently left Southern California but they've had a huge rash of random shootings lately. I'm glad you weren't hurt but I know emotionally, these things scar!

The barn is right down the street from my best friends house. I long to stop every time I drive by. I was shocked to see that on tv! The poor woman. I'm so glad everyone is ok!

I know that it's scary when violence hits so close to home, and I'm so sorry, Kim. But I do know where I stand on gun control. There is a reason why "stand your ground" states have lower violent crime stats than the other states.

Switzerland is the safest country in the world, and they have mandatory gun OWNERSHIP laws...instead of a standing military they have a citizens militia. England has a high violent crime rate, and they have strict fun control laws. We need to learn from Europe.

Wow, that is so scary, Kim! I'm so glad no one was hurt. I'm like you, still trying to figure out where I stand. I do not believe that teachers should be carrying guns or some of the other craziness that is being tossed around. I do believe there should be a ban on assault weapons and the large magazine-type guns, but I also think Hollywood and many of the "game" manufacturers should be held accountable. There is so much violence in movies, TV shows and the games that so many of our young people get involved with. Well, now maybe I have a bit more of an opinion than I thought.....lol!

Hope you can have a great weekend after all this trauma!
